MALONE FELLOWSHIP IN ARAB AND ISLAMIC
STUDIES
SUMMER PROGRAMS IN TUNISIA
AND YEMEN: 1997
The National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations
is pleased to offer two summer programs in the Arab world in 1997.
The first study visit will be to Tunisia, June 10-21, 1997. Participants
will attend seminars on a variety of topics related to culture, economy,
history, development, and U.S.- Tunisian bilateral relations. Participants will also have
the opportunity to meet with Tunisian government officials, religious leaders,
as well as visit historic sites. The National Council will offer the option
of visiting Andalusia (southern Spain) for those interested. The cost for
the Tunisia program is $2,100.
The second study visit will be to Yemen, July 8-19, 1997. The program will
be coordinated with the assistance of the Yemen Language Center in Sana'a.
As in Tunisia, the unique combination of official government meetings and
cultural visits will provide an opportunity to learn about an Arab country
that rarely receives much attention in mainstream publications in the U.S.
The cost for the Yemen program will be $2,700.
As with all National Council study visits, participants in these programs
will attend a predeparture orientation program in Washington, D.C., during
which they will have the opportunity to discuss Middle East issues with
scholars, U.S. government officials, and Arab diplomats.
If you are interested in either of the programs, please complete the form
below and return it to the National Council. We will provide you with additional
information. If you have other questions, please contact Steve Adams-Smith
or Kathy Sucher. Please note that the National Council welcomes the participation
of spouses in summer programs.
