Robert S. McNamara Fellowships
The Program offers 12 month Fellowships for research in the general area of economic development. Priority topics for the 1997 cycle are:
1) The dynamics of achieving positive political and economic development through mediation and consensus building at the level of multiple nation states, nation state, or the region;
or
2) Ways to handle the construction of the state (at all levels) in ethnically, regionally, and racially diverse environments. The emphasis here is on exploration of effective approaches, e.g. fiscal and administrative decentralization, to create support for the overall development of the nation. No other topics will be considered.
To be eligible, candidates must:
Be nationals of a World Bank member developing country and he residents in a developing country.
Holds minimum of a Master's degree or equivalent.
Be 35 years of age or under (exceptional cases considered up to 40 years of age).
Intend to carry out their research in the country of residence, in association with a local research institute,
The amount of the Fellowship is $7,500 and is intended to cover research costs only. The Program organizes a short seminar for the fellows during the fellowship year.
The Program does not support degree studies.
The deadline for applications for the 1998 cycle is November 20, 1997.
