How does my experience as an Arab American differ from that of my parents? How might my children's perspective differ from my own? How has my family been affected by the immigrant experience? American culture/Arab culture: How have I experienced the pull of both cultures? How have I benefited from my unique perspective as an Arab American? How have I experienced anti-Arab stereotyping or discrimination? What can I do to change the way Arabs are viewed in America today? PRIZES
CRITERIA: Clarity of expression Freshness of thought Insight into personal experience Quality of writing JUDGES: A panel of recognized Arab American leaders and scholars. ELIGIBILITY; This contest is open to juniors and seniors in high school and freshmen and sophomores in college who are ADC members. Student memberships are $30/year. Family memberships are $50/year. Payable by check or credit card. Proof of enrollment and a recent report on grades is required. DEADLINE for submission of essays:
February 20, 1997 (Essays must be typed. Be sure to include your name, address
and phone number.) Winners will be publicly announced at the 1997 ADC Convention
at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel in Arlington, Virginia (March 27-30).
Winners will be notified ahead of time, so they and their families can make
plans to attend the Convention. |
