Since 1981, over 300 students have participated in the ADC Research Institute's (ADCRI) Internship Program. Students from all over the country and abroad gather in Washington, DC, every year to gain firsthand experience in the workings of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC). ADC is the leading grassroots Arab American organization. It was founded in 1980 by former Senator James Abourezk to defend the rights of people of Arab descent and promote the Arab heritage. ADCRI's internship program offers a variety of positions geared to educating students on issues of civil rights and the Arab heritage and empowering them to educate others. At the same time, students gain practical training in community organizing, research and writing, media relations, legal issues, political action and educational work. Qualifications Candidates must be currently enrolled in college and have completed at least one year of undergraduate study. This includes recent graduates, graduate students and law students. We encourage applicants of all ethnic backgrounds. Semester Internships Intern positions for work-study or college credit are available during the academic year at the ADC national office, and are arranged on a case-by-case basis. During the school year, applications are considered as they are received. Work hours can be accommodated to students class schedules. Stipends vary according to student program and schedule. Summer Program During the summer, up to 10 internships are available at the ADC national office. The internships are full-time positions and normally last ten weeks from late May to early August. Interns receive a $500 stipend. Housing: ADCRI can advise interns and assist them in locating roommates and/or housing in college dormitories. Educational Programs: During the summer, there will be opportunities to take advantage of the speakers, conferences, films and cultural programs in Washington which address Arab world issues. Each year interns write and publish Intern Perspectives, in which they reflect on their experience at ADC and on the issues they have dealt with. Deadlines: Applications for summer internships are due March 30. Later applications will be considered but early applicants will be given priority.
