Operating from the premise that "all politics is local," NAAA has developed a two-tiered approach to its lobbying activity. At the national level, the Board of Directors formulates the policy objectives of the Association. The Board is comprised of 21 prominent community leaders from across the country. Each year, seven members are elected by the general membership to three-year terms on the Board of Directors, and the Board, in turn, elects the executive officers. The President of NAAA manages the day-to-day operations of the Association. NAAA's national office monitors all developments in Washington concerning the Middle East, scrutinizing relevant U.S. policy decisions, congressional hearings, official statements and political events. The staff prepares reports and issue briefs to assist the Board in setting policy objectives for the Association. Congressional profiles highlighting the records of all members of Congress on Middle East issues are also produced. |
