You might want to check how Lybia treated its non Lybian Arab residents as well.
With the probable exception of a few Gulfic countries (like Kuwait or KSA), the
worst was there, with massive and unwarranted expulsions. No I definitely do not
trust these regimes and your story doesn't surprise me, but I don't throw it on
their people.
So the illusion is not the one you mention. The illusion is to think that
Europeans are likely to give you an equal breath to them ever, to forget that at
best, you're a tolerated stranger, and not be aware that the only reason you've
been better there is that these countries allowed more room for freedom and
democracy within their borders than Arab regimes which do not even consider their
citizens as human beings did.
It's a pity your experience made you so bitter and so subjective in your analysis
of the situation. In any case, I'm out of it: who am I to try to convince you
that lines in the sand aren't as practically valuable as human loyalties?
